After completing graduation from Electrical Engineering every graduate wonders what’s next?

So here, you will be provided with every information related to further job opportunities one can opt to pursue career in this particular field.

Before moving towards Job opportunities lets have a slighter look at-

What Electrical engineering actually stands for?

Electrical engineering is a prominent branch of engineering which deals with the electricity. Electrical engineering actually refers to the study, design and application of equipment, devices and systems which use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.

What an Electrical Engineer does?

An Electrical Engineer works on large power plants as well in small hardware companies which includes designing, manufacturing and operating power plants, industrial machinery, electrical motors, computer chips and ignition systems for automobiles, aircrafts, space crafts and all kinds of engines.

As technology is growing with the fast pace hence its opening up multiple job options for every engineer. From a home appliance to heavy industrial equipment every things are equipped with electrical engineering, Electricity and electronic appliances have become one of our basic needs in day-to-day life. Be it transport, banking, other private and public sectors and even educational premises, electrical and electronics engineering has a vital role to play in any environment.

And hence, Qualified Electrical Engineers are always in demand, since most Industries use electricity and electric machines. Engineers are required by Industries for operational, maintenance and manufacturing purposes.

What is further scope in Electrical Engineering after BE/B.TECH?

Post Graduation:

In order to get master’s degree it’s important to have a bachelor's degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or any other equivalent branches of engineering. The duration for this course is 2 years.

Jobs for electrical engineers divided in 3 categories-

(1) Design/Analysis

(2) Manufacturing/Maintenance

(3) Research

(1) Design-

Electrical design engineer develop new electrical systems for various applications. Electrical design engineers use software programs to design and perfect new electrical systems.

Design and analysis broadly works on developing better electrical machinery, they also do electrical network analysis in power system and testing of equipment's. They also use CAD* software wiring layouts and equipment drawings.

Requirements –

ü A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

ü Candidates must be capable of using CAD software, read technical drawings, and understands electrical theories and concepts.

*[Computer-aided design (CAD) is a computer technology that designs a product and documents the design's process. This software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists etc.]

(2) Manufacturing and Maintenance Engineer:-

Manufacturing Engineers design, integrate, or improve manufacturing systems or related processes. He’s work is to develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.

An electrical manufacturing engineer basically works in manufacturing of various equipment's like home appliance, transformers etc. maintenance engineer mainly trouble shoot, plan maintenance schedule and spare management in big plants.

Requirements-

ü Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering/Technology or related field.

ü In-depth knowledge of Engineering documentation and Quality Management Systems.

(3)Research Engineer:-

Research engineer broadly works in controls and optimization algorithms. They also use modern tools like computational electromagnetic, designing better power system like transformers and coil etc.

Requirements-

ü Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science/Electrical/Electronic Engineering with the relevant course and research work.

ü Excellent knowledge of computer architecture with relevant research and project work or industry experience.

Electrical engineers Jobs are also divided in 3 industries:-

(1)  Public sector

(2)  Government sector

(3)  Private sector

(1)  PUBLIC SECTOR-

Public sectors comes up with various jobs for Electrical Engineers as they are being needed for the various work related with Electrification whether it is Generation of Power, Distribution of Power or maintenance of power. Public sector offers high average package around 50-60K per month. In this sector growth rate is linear. Jobs in PSU’s are mostly in manufacturing & maintenance and very few jobs in Design and research. Most of the PSU recruit through GATE some conduct their own Entrance test.

Some of the prominent PSU’s highly preferred are:-

a)     Power Grid Corporation of India(PGCI)

b)     Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited(BHEL)

c)     National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC)

d)     Oil and natural gas corporation(ONGC)

e)     Indian Oil

(2)  GOVERNMENT SECTOR:-

Government sector is most favored sector by every job aspirant. Their salary package varies from 40-45K per month. In this sector growth is slow paced and linear. Their jobs are mostly based on Research and very few jobs in design and manufacturing. Job opportunities in this sector are highly competitive due to less vacancies and large number of qualified and skilled applicants. Most of the government sector recruit students on the basis of GATE score some of the organization also conduct their own Entrance test.

Some of the recognized government institutions are:-

A)    Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO)

B)    Defense Research and Development Organization(DRDO)

C)    Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC)

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) recruit candidates as a research fellow.

(3)  PRIVATE SECTOR:-

Private sector is the major recruiters. Salary in this sector varies from low paying job of around 10-15K to high paying jobs of 40-45K per month. Majorly top private industry recruit candidates through campus placements and some of the private companies prefer through advertisement and consultancy. The graph of growth in this sector shows less deviation in initial phase due to slow growth and then shows major deviation due to exponential growth after 5-10 years. In this sector jobs are equally distributed among manufacturing/maintenance and design there are also some rare jobs in Research they are very high profile jobs.

Some of the most preferred industries are:-

A)    ABB

B)    SIEMENS

C)    Schneider electric

D)    Rockwell automation

E)     ALSTOM

F)     AREVA etc.

t is predicted that the scope of electrical  engineers will multiply largely in the core industries Due to industrialization and development in economy. The scope of electrical and electronics engineers will remain unaffected by the factors like technical advancements and recession, etc. so this sector will be the leading sector offering multiple job options.
